Nothing have been more important to quality of roasting than discovering the Rate Of Rise Curve. The curve guides us in terms of how fast the temperature is either increasing or decreasing. I am not going in to the debate regarding how an Rate Of Rise Curve should look or act I am simply mentioning what I am interested in at the moment and why in regards to how I find it useful. This is a summary of a short presentation I did at the London Coffee Festival this year at the Loring booth.

This afternoon, the FED raised its key interest rate target by 0.25% to a range of 1% - 1.25%. This was widely expected by markets and Janet Yellen stated “Our decision….. reflects the progress the economy has made and is expected to make”. The dollar index immediately jumped from its near day low of 96.5 to its current level of 96.9 and may very well breach its day high of 97.09. As we speak, the Dow Jones Index is up 13 at 21,341. Gold fell $20 following the announcement having peaked for the day just before it and currently stands at $1,258 and silver similarly peaked at $17....
This is a 15 minute revision webinar on monetary policy in the UK economy and it focuses on a discussion about whether the Bank should now be starting to raise the base rate. 2017 is an important year for the British economy. In the seventh year of recovery from recession, by now it would be common for the Bank of England to be raising monetary policy interest rates higher towards normal levels associated with a zero output gap and an unemployment rate of 5% of the labour force. But these are not normal times and there are good grounds for base interest rates remaining at historic lows. In the webinar recording we look at a number of up-to-date charts on key macroeconomic indicators such as inflation, unemployment, wage growth, house prices, the exchange rate and bank lending. CONNE...

The Bank of England's chief economist said last month he didn't mind being accused of taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut - as long as it was delivered promptly. Today it was as the governor did all he could to stop Britain slipping into recession. Interest rates are now at a record low and tens of billions of pounds are being pumped into the economy. The moves came as the Bank's quarterly inflation report warned that the Brexit vote would slam the brakes on economic growth, triggering rising unemployment and falling house prices. Our Business Correspondent, Helia Ebrahimi, speaks to the Governor and asks if the measures were designed to avert the threat of any recession?

As the rate of opioid addiction has surged in the United States, Mexico has become the world's third-largest producer of opium used to process heroin. Mexican cartels are now the primary suppliers of the drug to the US, producing a crude and unrefined form known as black tar. VICE News travels to the fertile mountains of western Mexico, where we see the beginning of the path black tar heroin takes to the US on plantations growing poppies used to make opium. We then head across the US border to witness the human cost there of the lucrative but destructive heroin trade. India is one of the world’s fastest developing economies. In recent years, the country has witnessed rapid progress and development. However, despite prosperity, many Indians are committing suicide on an alarming level. According to a recent government report, over a hundred thousand people commit suicide in India every year; the report described family problems, illness, unemployment, debt, and drug abuse as the main reasons behind the epidemic. According to health experts, mental health is not a priority in India and most Indians are not aware of the fact that mental illness is behind the rising suicide. They say a lack of mental health facilities prevents people from seeking support. Meanwhile, a suicide epidemic among Indian farmers continues unabated; they are battling the burdens ...

The Bureau of Labor Statistics' monthly jobs report for October revealed an unemployment rate increase of a tenth of a percent to 7.9 percent; however, on a positive note, this increase was due to people entering the labor force, as the Labor Department only counts those with jobs or those who are actively looking for jobs as part of the workforce. An additional 578,000 people joined the labor force in October, edging the labor force participation rate up to 63.8 percent. Also, 171,000 non-farm payroll jobs were added to the US labor force, beating median analyst expectations of 125,000 jobs, according to Bloomberg. These...
Earth scientist Alex Gardner reveals a world of rapid change as seen through the eyes of a NASA glaciologist. Glaciers and ice sheets hold massive amounts of freshwater locked up as ice. These stores of freshwater feed water supplies that support millions of people around the world, raise global sea levels, and can even change the rate of Earth’s rotation. It is now nearly certain that as Earth’s atmosphere and oceans warm over the coming centuries, glaciers and ice sheets will continue to retreat and sea levels will continue to rise. The big question now is at what rate and by how much? The von Kármán Lecture Series: 2017 https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/events/lectures_archive.php?year=2017&month=2 Speaker: Alex S. Now, things was looking golden, baby
Everything was fine
You never made no sign
That you had changed your mind
I guess I was mistaken, girl
To count so on you
What else could I do
Time to pay my dues
Well girl, I've been torn up before
But I can't handle that once more
Well I been down for a long long time
And now it's time to reach my mind
There's lots of pain upon this earth
Girl, I've had my money's worth
I have had my ups and downs and all around
Girl, I've tried to change your way of thinkin'
Tried to make you see
Well, livin' here with me
Is where you ought to be
But it didn't seem to make no difference
It never changed your world
Or stopped your social twirl
You're still the same old girl
And now, I've been torn up before
But I can't handle that once more
I been down for a long long time
But now it's time to reach my mind
'Cause there's lots of pain upon this earth
And girl, I've had my money's worth
I have had my ups and downs and all around
I've been up, down, all around now baby (up, down, all around)
I've been up, I been down, I been all around now baby (up, down, all around)
Yeah we've both been up and down and all around baby(up, down, all around)
You go up, you go down, you go all around now baby (up, down, all around)
Yes, I'm up, I'm down, all around now baby (up, down, all around)
Up and down and all around
